This one-day course will provide guidance on the safeguarding methodology as presented in updated CSA Standard Z142-10. The standard will assist with determining which safeguarding devices are necessary to safeguard various types of presses including brake, punch and servo presses. The performance requirements for safeguarding devices as well as the training requirements needed for your press operators and die setters will be presented.
Topics Include
•Introduction to CSA Standard Z142-10 including: scope, definitions, principles of machine safety, responsibilities, hazard identification and control
•Machinery requirements including: stop buttons, interlocks or monitoring circuits, full revolution, friction clutches and key pneumatic requirements, flywheel/crank angle, servo presses, hydraulic nuts on tie rods
•Safety related control system performance
•Safeguarding including: personnel, machinery, safety circuit performance, press brake safeguarding, laser actuated AOPD moving with the slide/ram/platen
•Stopping times and distances
•Additional considerations including: lockout, use of dies, training and operation, maintenance and inspection, personal protective equipment, emergency plans
Upon completion participants will be able to:
•Review key requirements of Z-142-10
•Identify current revisions and implications for the workplace
•Understand safety requirements including control reliability, stopping times and distance, safeguards
•Review machinery requirements and apply to the workplace through case discussions |
