A flu preparedness kit for Canadian businesses |

Many Canadian businesses know the threat of a pandemic flu outbreak and are putting contingency plans in place as a precaution. Grand & Toy has partnered with St. John Ambulance to offer the FLU SAFE Flu Preparedness Kit: a compact package of tools to help prevent the spread of viruses.
The kit is designed for Canadian businesses of all sizes, but especially the mid- to large-business market, which represents the largest risk for spreading the pandemic flu within the workplace.
With people often working in close contact with one another, as well as sharing tools like pens and telephones, the workplace is one of the most common places that the flu can spread from person to person.
Not only can a pandemic flu outbreak cause people to become seriously ill, but it can also have a negative impact on a business’s bottom line as a result of absenteeism and a drop in productivity. With this in mind, FLU SAFE is designed to provide companies with a toolkit for individual employees, including hand sanitizer, antiseptic wipes, surgical masks and vinyl gloves.
St. John Ambulance recommends that businesses follow three key steps to help reduce the risk of a widespread flu outbreak:
1. Become knowledgeable on the difference between common flu and pandemic flu by visiting www.influenza.gc.ca. 2. Offer employees one FLU SAFE Flu Preparedness Kit and ensure there is 17 weeks’ worth of components on hand per employee in case of a pandemic (kit has one week’s worth of contents per person). 3. Reduce face-to-face exposure through conference calls, video conferencing and working from home.
Replenishment supplies for the kits are also available in bulk orders. Kit contents include: a 120 ml bottle of hand sanitizer; 10 alcohol wipes; five surgical masks; five pairs of vinyl gloves; a flu information card; and one nylon bag with shoulder strap.
