IBM harnesses people power Print E-mail

IBM recently launched a new workforce analytics package, combining human capital management services and software that helps clients more effectively analyze key trends and metrics in their workforce to get the most from their talent investment. This solution provides chief human resource officers with easy access to workforce data at the same level of rigor as the financial or operational data available to the CEO, CFO or CIO.

IBM's Workforce Analytics (WFA) packaged services provide reliable, consistent information regarding key workforce measures such as demographics, compensation, attrition, and costs in the context of business strategies and goals. WFA consists of a set of modular, “packaged” components and services, including Cognos software pre-mapped to the major enterprise human resources information systems (Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP), rapid implementation services and knowledge transfer and training focused on how to successfully employ workforce analytics.

"Today's economic and global marketplace pressures mean organizations have to find new ways to compete and thrive," said Tim Ringo, vice president and global leader, Human Capital Management, IBM. "The fact is, what is not measured is not managed, which is a waste of the substantial investment that organizations put into their human capital. But while organizations recognize the importance of workforce data, many have limited experience in treating workforce analytics as an operational function and treat this key process as an occasional snapshot rather than an ongoing part of business as usual. IBM's Workforce Analytics packaged services and software answer that need."

According to IBM’s Global Human Capital Study 2008, Unlocking the DNA of the Adaptable Workforce, 48 per cent of respondents are already planning to deploy tools that simplify human capital data and information analysis. And between now and 2011, 84 per cent of executives expect to increase their use of workforce measures. However, today only 6 per cent think they are effective at using human capital data to make workforce decisions and only 30 per cent use human capital metrics to evaluate their business needs.

The WFA "pre-packaged" service is a distinct departure from the traditional costly and time consuming approach of using tools to build custom analytic applications. The pre-packaging and rapid deployment approach shortens employer "time to value," while reducing risk associated with acquiring analytic capabilities.
