The 2009 Bohire survey interviewed 300 Canadian employers and found that the overwhelming first choice for the most preferred hiring method is referrals. The results are coming at a time when job seekers everywhere are desperate to know what they can do to get hired.
The survey asked the following question “In your opinion, what is the most cost effective way to hire long-term, quality employees for your company?" and the results are as follows:
1. Referrals are the first choice with a staggering 75.6% of employers choosing this as their top pick 2. Job boards – 11% 3. Other (media, company websites, networking, social networking) – 9% 4. Recruiting agencies – 3.3% 5. Career fairs – 2% 6. Print ads – 1.6%
Partner Vince Tsang explains, “Job seekers need to change the way they look for work to adapt to the economic crisis. The economy is in a state of turmoil and job applicants have to take advantage of what the study has proven – that referrals are the best way to get hired.”
